Liz paid her way through college working as a server, bartender, and manager. Upon graduation with a degree in marketing, she joined a large marketing firm and specialized in online marketing for the hospitality industry. She managed the online marketing campaigns of companies ranging in size from Fairmont Hotels and Fiesta Americana to small independent operators in the hotel and restaurant fields and is actively involved with helping businesses market their businesses both online and offline.
Liz helped establish BarBusinessOwner.com to provide a go-to resource for independent bar owners and managers who are looking for the edge in running more profitable businsesses.
Liz resides on the Gulf Coast of Florida with her husband and hound dog Lucky and is an avid supporter of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Her favorite drink to order in a bar is a dirty martini.
Joe Martin Jr. is a second generation bar owner and has had a diverse 15+ year career in business where he has learned and implemented strategies on how to attract customers cost effectively, how to get the customer to buy more, and most importantly how to run a profitable business.
Joe began his business career during college when he worked at a major electronics chain retailer. Within a few years of earning his degree, he decided he wanted to call his own shots and opened his first business, a specialty gift shop retail store.
After doing much research, and following through on a lifelong dream, Joe then opened a 75 seat restaurant and bar. As owner and manager, he learned what bar owners should do to successfully run their business. Just as importantly, he also learned what bar owners should not do.
After selling these businesses, Joe then joined the travel industry where he was VP and head of sales for one of the largest travel agencies in the U.S. During his six years there he devised and implemented sales strategies and systems that helped increase company sales from $2 million a year to over $500 million a year and hired and trained a sales force of over 300 commissioned sales people. During this time frame he added to his knowledge base proven ways of getting marketing, sales, and human resource management results.
Joe knows first hand what it takes to be a successful small business owner. His knowledge of low-cost promotions, marketing strategies, and sales is applicable to all business owners, especially bar owners.
Joe resides in Southwest Florida and tries to cruise as much as possible. When travelling he's likely somewhere on a weekend getaway in the Caribbean. His favorite drink to order in the Caribbean is a pain killer.
Melissa Boggs is the operations guru at BarBusinessOwner.com. She has been general manager of a beach bar and restaurant in Virginia Beach, Virginia for over 15 years.
Melissa has first hand knowledge and extensive experience with the many day-to-day operational issues bar owners and managers face and has a wealth of experience with bar promotions, inventory management, liability issues, theft prevention, and human resource management.
When not managing her bar Melissa can be found a couple blocks away on the beach working on her tan or jogging next to the surf thinking about spending more time in Costa Rica. Her favorite drink to order in a bar is a mojito.
